A vulnerable indigenous 'Chepang Community' is fighting for living !
The Chepang are the most marginalized indigenous communities in Nepal, mainly residing in the rugged hills of the central region. Their small population is about 68,000 and located in Chitwan, Makwanpur, Dhading and Gorkha districts. Traditionally, they have been a marginalized group with a distinct language and culture.
The Chepang society is primarily agrarian, relying on subsistence farming and hunting. They face challenges such as poverty and limited access to education and healthcare. Efforts have been made to address their socio-economic issues and promote inclusion in national development initiatives.
However, many national and international, government and non-governmental organizations shout a lot for their development, effective supports and opportunity creation but still looks no sufficient effort to uplift their situation reducing poverty and upgrading their socio-economic status.
Sustainable tourism must be an important tool to bring sustainable changes in their lives by creating a tangible and impactful opportunity for them.
